Dar Ben Abdallah

This grand eighteenth-century mansion deep in the Tunis medina now serves as a museum of the city's traditional domestic life. Arranged around a marble courtyard cooled by a fountain, its rooms display costumed figures, furnishings and objects that recreate the household of a wealthy family. Walls of carved plaster, glazed tile and painted wood show the height of Tunisois craftsmanship. Tucked among the residential lanes near the Zaytuna, it offers a quiet and atmospheric window into the private world behind the medina's plain outer walls.
