The Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve is a large nature reserve on the Río de la Plata waterfront in Buenos Aires, formed accidentally on rubble dumped for a failed land-reclamation scheme. Over decades the site rewilded into wetlands, lagoons and grassland that now shelter hundreds of bird species. Trails and viewpoints allow walkers, cyclists and birdwatchers to explore the marshes with the city skyline rising behind. The reserve offers a striking contrast of wild habitat directly beside the dense downtown.
