Parque Eduardo VII is the largest central park in Lisbon, laid out on a sloping site above the Avenida da Liberdade and named for the visiting British king Edward VII. Its formal centre is a broad axis of clipped box hedges arranged in a geometric pattern climbing the hillside. At the top a terrace and monument to the 1974 revolution command a long view down to the river Tagus. To one side stands the Estufa Fria, a series of cool greenhouses sheltering ferns, palms and subtropical plants.
