This large domed hall in central Lisbon opened in 1890 for circus acts, variety shows and equestrian displays, its iron-and-glass roof reflecting late nineteenth-century engineering tastes. Over time it shifted toward concerts, opera and popular music, hosting touring international performers alongside Portuguese fado and pop artists. The rounded auditorium, with tiered galleries and a central floor, seats several thousand and remains one of the city's busiest music stages. Visitors notice its domed ceiling and ornate metalwork.
