This funicular has hauled passengers up the steep slope between Restauradores and the Bairro Alto since 1885, originally powered by water counterweights before switching to electricity. Its bright yellow twin cars, often layered with graffiti, climb a short but punishing gradient flanked by cafés and viewpoints. Classified as a national monument, the line remains part of the working transport network rather than a museum piece, and the ride ends near the São Pedro de Alcântara belvedere and its wide panorama.
