Tucked into a side street of the Chiado quarter, this theatre opened in 1867 and became known for operetta, revue and comedy that entertained generations of Lisbon audiences. Its horseshoe auditorium is decorated with painted ceilings and gilded balcony fronts typical of Portuguese playhouses. After periods of decline it was restored and reopened as a cultural venue staging plays, concerts and family programming. A tiled beer hall adjoining the theatre, the Cervejaria Trindade, adds to the site's distinct historic character.
