Seoul Plaza

An oval lawn in the center of Seoul fronting the domed old City Hall and its curved glass modern successor, this open plaza serves as a stage for public life through the seasons. It hosts open-air concerts and rallies in warmer months and converts into a popular outdoor ice rink in winter. The surrounding streets carry heavy traffic, yet the grass draws office workers and families. Created as part of an effort to give the dense downtown more public space, the plaza has become a familiar backdrop for civic gatherings in the capital.
