Bundesplatz is the square before the Federal Palace in Bern, the seat of the Swiss government and parliament, at the core of the medieval old town on its river peninsula. The paved space is set with 26 water jets representing the cantons, which spurt from the ground and delight children in summer. A weekly market fills it with produce and flowers, and in late autumn an acclaimed light-and-sound show is projected onto the parliament façade. The arcaded streets of the UNESCO-listed centre run off from its edges.
