Xi'an Museum

This museum in southern Xi'an is set within the grounds of the Small Wild Goose Pagoda and its surrounding gardens. Its collection of some one hundred thousand objects illustrates the city's role as capital of successive dynasties, with Tang tri-colour figurines, Buddhist statuary and jade among the highlights. The pairing of the graceful Tang-era pagoda with modern galleries lets visitors combine art viewing with a landscaped historic setting. Admission is free, making it a relaxed alternative to the busier terracotta sites.
