Muslim Quarter, Xi'an

The Huimin Quarter adjacent to the Great Mosque in Xi'an has served as a center of the Hui Muslim community for over a thousand years, positioned along the old Silk Road. The pedestrian Beiyuanmen street is lined with vendors of flatbreads, pomegranate juice, lamb skewers, and sesame desserts sold from traditional shop fronts. The Great Mosque at the quarter's core blends Chinese courtyard architecture with Islamic devotional space.
