A museum in a double-fronted canal house on the Herengracht, once home to the wealthy Willet-Holthuysen couple. The last owner bequeathed the mansion and its contents to the city, preserving a nineteenth-century interior of a well-to-do household. Rooms display period furniture, glassware, silver and a collection of paintings and objets d'art. A symmetrical French-style garden behind the house is restored to its formal layout. The museum captures the taste and comfort of Amsterdam's cultured upper class in the Golden Age revival era.
