This museum and gallery overlooks the sea at Bullocky Point in Darwin and is the leading cultural institution of the Northern Territory. Its collections span Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art, natural history and the maritime and cyclone history of the region. A popular gallery recounts Cyclone Tracy, which devastated the city in 1974, including a darkened room replaying the sound of the storm. Preserved specimens include a large saltwater crocodile once notorious in local waters.
