This modest colonial house in central Asunción is preserved as a museum because it served as a meeting place for the patriots who plotted Paraguay's independence in 1811. One of the oldest surviving buildings in the city, its simple whitewashed walls, tiled roof and interior patio typify eighteenth-century domestic architecture. Displays of furniture, documents and relics recall the events that led to the break with Spain. A secret passage associated with the conspiracy adds to the site's historic appeal.
