Officially the Monument of the Charter Magna and the Four Argentine Regions, this white marble fountain and column in Palermo was a gift from the Spanish community for the independence centenary. Delayed by shipwreck and the First World War, it was finally inaugurated in 1927. Allegorical bronze groups representing the pampas, the Andes, the plains and the rivers surround the tall central shaft crowned by a winged figure. It stands at a busy intersection of avenues near the city's largest parks.
