This distinctive red-painted seat of the national parliament dominates central Port of Spain, its twin domed towers rising above Woodford Square. The current Beaux-Arts building opened in 1907 after an earlier structure was burned during riots, and it has been the theatre of major political events including a 1990 attempted coup. Recent restoration uncovered pre-Columbian Amerindian remains beneath the floor. Guided visits interpret the chambers, the rotunda, and the building's central role in Trinidadian public life.
