The oldest continuously occupied house in Puerto Rico, built in the early sixteenth century for the family of conquistador Juan Ponce de León, though he never lived in it himself. Set on high ground within the walled city, the whitewashed residence with its shaded courtyards and terraced gardens later served as a military headquarters. It now functions as a museum of colonial domestic life, its rooms furnished with period pieces. Fountains and views over the bay make its gardens a tranquil corner of Old San Juan.
