Set in the former terminal of San Jose's old airport at the entrance to La Sabana Park, this museum is devoted to national painting and sculpture. Opened in 1978, it gathers Costa Rican art from the nineteenth century onward, including works by the country's leading modern artists. A celebrated stucco-relief Golden Hall on the upper floor depicts the nation's history. Surrounded by the greenery of La Sabana, it combines art with a pleasant park setting.
