This small hilltop chapel is regarded as the oldest surviving church in Guatemala City, tracing its origins to a hermitage founded in the early eighteenth century. Dedicated to the Virgin of Carmen, it stands on a rise in the northern part of Zone 1, reached by a stair from the surrounding neighbourhood. The simple whitewashed church and its terrace offer views over the historic centre. Its annual feast draws pilgrims and marks one of the capital's older devotional traditions.
