This vast open-air relief map in Parque Minerva depicts the whole of Guatemala's terrain at a horizontal scale of 1:10,000. Engineer Francisco Vela completed it in 1905, exaggerating the vertical scale so that volcanoes, mountain ranges and river systems stand out dramatically. Water channels represent the country's rivers and both coastlines. Raised viewing towers let visitors look down on the miniature nation, making it a favourite educational stop for school groups and travellers.
