Set on the Francisco Marroquin University campus, this museum is devoted to the highland Maya art of weaving. Named for the Maya goddess of the moon and textiles, it preserves thousands of huipiles, cortes and ceremonial garments gathered from villages across Guatemala. Displays trace regional patterns, natural dyes and backstrap-loom techniques, and paintings by Carmen Pettersen record traditional dress. The building's stone-and-concrete design won architectural acclaim when it opened in the 1990s.
