The state historical society's flagship museum occupies a modern building near Denver's civic center and covers the sweep of Colorado's past, from Ancestral Puebloan communities to mining booms, ranching, and the ski industry. Interactive exhibits let visitors drive a Model T across a virtual plain or explore a recreated 1900s frontier town. The center also confronts difficult chapters such as the Sand Creek Massacre and Japanese American incarceration at Camp Amache. A large terrazzo floor map of the state greets arrivals in the atrium.
