A theme park and heritage attraction built around a disused deep-level gold mine south of central Johannesburg. Its surface reconstructs a gold-rush-era mining town of the 1880s, complete with period buildings, while an underground tour descends a former shaft to show how ore was extracted. Alongside the historical exhibits are roller coasters, rides and entertainment for families. The complex commemorates the discovery of gold on the Witwatersrand that gave rise to the city.
