The excavated remains of an early-eighteenth-century coastal artillery fort, preserved beneath a modern building at the V&A Waterfront. Once part of the Cape's harbour defences, the battery was later demolished and buried, only to be rediscovered during construction. Walkways guide visitors over the exposed stone foundations, cannon emplacements and old shoreline, with displays explaining life at the colonial Cape. It offers an unexpected archaeological window into the settlement's maritime past.
