This major square and administrative district in central Addis Ababa surrounds a monument crowned with the Lion of Judah, erected to mark the country's liberation from Italian occupation. Its name means four kilometres, a reference to an old road marker from the imperial palace. The area concentrates key government ministries, the parliament and several important churches nearby. As one of the capital's principal civic squares, it functions as a focal point for national ceremonies and everyday city traffic.
