Built in 1961 at the initiative of Emperor Haile Selassie, Africa Hall served as the founding home of the Organisation of African Unity and remains a seat of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa. Its most celebrated feature is a towering stained-glass window by artist Afewerk Tekle titled The Total Liberation of Africa, depicting the continent's struggle against oppression. The modernist building symbolised post-colonial pan-African ambition and hosted decades of landmark diplomatic gatherings.
