This memorial museum on Bole Road commemorates the tens of thousands killed during the Derg regime's Red Terror campaign of the late 1970s. Opened in 2010, it gathers photographs of victims, personal effects, instruments of torture and skeletal remains recovered from mass graves. Displays trace the political turmoil that followed the fall of the monarchy. Many of the volunteer guides are survivors of the period, giving personal testimony that lends the exhibits unusual immediacy for visitors.
