This open-air museum on the northern edge of Dar es Salaam gathers authentically built traditional dwellings representing the many ethnic groups of Tanzania. Visitors walk among full-scale huts and homesteads in grassy grounds, each illustrating regional building styles and domestic life. Craft demonstrations and dance performances bring the exhibits to life. Part of the national museums network, it preserves vernacular architecture and rural traditions. The wooded compound offers a relaxed excursion from the city centre.
