This red-roofed Lutheran church on the Dar es Salaam waterfront is one of the city's most distinctive colonial landmarks, built by German missionaries in the early twentieth century. Its tiled roof, whitewashed walls and clock tower reflect the German East African period. The church sits prominently along the harbour promenade near the ferry crossing and old government buildings. It remains a working congregation and, with the nearby cathedral, anchors the historic seafront core recalling the city's colonial port origins.
