The historic terminus of the Uganda Railway in the Kenyan capital, this station gave rise to Nairobi itself, which grew from a railway depot into a colonial hub and eventually the national capital. The older station building and its yards reflect the engineering that pushed a metre-gauge line from the coast to Lake Victoria. Nearby stand relics of the railway age, and the adjacent museum preserves locomotives and carriages. The station still serves regional and commuter trains, linking the modern city to its founding transport artery.
