One of the most prominent mosques in the Kenyan capital, this early twentieth-century building anchors Nairobi's Muslim community in the heart of the central business district. Its facade blends Arab, Indian and Islamic influences, crowned by three silver domes and a pair of minarets. The mosque was founded during the colonial era by Nairobi's growing South Asian and Swahili populations. Surrounded by bustling markets and shops, it remains an active place of worship and a distinctive landmark on the city's streetscape.
