Marrakesh railway station is the southern terminus of Morocco's national rail network and one of the country's most architecturally distinctive stations. The current building, opened in 2008, presents a long facade of arches and geometric grillework that reinterprets traditional Moorish design in a modern idiom, topped by a landmark clock. Inside, a spacious hall connects to shops and cafés, and the station links Marrakesh to Casablanca, Rabat, Fes and Tangier. Its striking gateway greets many travellers arriving by train.
