The Bab Doukkala Mosque is a sixteenth-century congregational mosque in the northwestern part of the Marrakesh medina, built during the Saadian period under the patronage of a royal woman associated with the dynasty. Its tall square minaret, decorated with a band of tilework and blind arches, rises prominently above the surrounding quarter near the gate that gives the mosque its name. The complex historically included a fountain, hammam and other charitable foundations. It marks the enduring religious fabric of the Saadian-era city.
