Located within the walls of Old Cairo, this museum holds the world's most comprehensive collection of Coptic Christian art and artifacts. Its galleries trace the transition from pharaonic and Greco-Roman traditions into early Christian Egypt, displaying carved stonework, textiles, manuscripts, icons and architectural fragments from monasteries across the country. The building itself is notable for its intricately carved wooden ceilings and mashrabiya screens salvaged from old Cairene houses.
