The largest of Bukhara's surviving trading domes, this covered bazaar was built in the sixteenth century at a busy crossroads where the jewellers of the city plied their trade, a function preserved in its name. Beneath a soaring central cupola and a cluster of smaller domes, a network of passages once sheltered dozens of shops from the desert heat. Restored to house craft stalls, it still sells gold, silver, gems and souvenirs to visitors passing between the great monuments nearby.
