A richly decorated seventeenth-century madrasa in Bukhara, standing opposite the older Ulugh Beg madrasa near the covered market domes. It is admired for the exuberance of its ornament, including painted vaults, carved plaster and tilework depicting stylised dragons and mythical birds not usually found in religious buildings. The lavish, unfinished decoration reflects the ambitions of its founder. Today the building houses displays of woodcarving and applied art amid its ornate halls.
