This large public park in central Ankara was laid out in the 1940s on former marshland as part of the early republic's effort to green and modernise the new capital. Centred on a broad artificial lake with fountains, it offers tree-lined promenades, tea gardens, an amusement area and open lawns close to the railway station. For generations it has been a favourite gathering place for families and evening strollers. Its creation reflected a deliberate vision of public recreation and civic pride in the rebuilt city.
