This historic mosque in the old quarter of Ankara stands beside the tomb of Hacı Bayram Veli, a revered fifteenth-century Sufi mystic and founder of an influential religious order. Built in the early fifteenth century and later restored, its brick and stone structure adjoins the ancient Temple of Augustus, so that Roman and Ottoman monuments share a single site. Tiled decoration and a wooden ceiling adorn the prayer hall, and the adjacent shrine draws a steady stream of pilgrims. The surrounding square forms the spiritual heart of the old city.
