The Roman Baths of Beirut are a set of ancient thermae rediscovered during downtown reconstruction and now displayed in a landscaped archaeological garden below the Grand Serail. Dating from the Roman era, when the city was the colony of Berytus, the ruins include the remains of heated rooms, hypocaust pillars, and water channels. Terraced gardens surround the excavations, which are open to the public free of charge and sometimes host cultural events. The site offers a tangible link to Beirut's classical past amid the modern government quarter.
