Beit Beirut, also known as the Barakat Building, is a restored Ottoman-era mansion that stood on the former Green Line dividing East and West Beirut during the civil war. Its yellow sandstone façade, riddled with bullet holes and sniper positions, was preserved as a memorial rather than demolished. The architecture, with sweeping central arches designed to catch light and air, once made it a fashionable residence. Today it hosts exhibitions and remembrance, confronting visitors with the physical scars of the conflict.
