The largest Armenian Apostolic cathedral in the world, consecrated in 2001 to mark seventeen centuries since Armenia adopted Christianity as its state religion. Built in central Yerevan of pale stone, the complex has a large central church flanked by two chapels, its design drawing on traditional Armenian forms at monumental scale. Relics of Saint Gregory the Illuminator, returned from abroad, are enshrined within. The cathedral serves major national ceremonies and stands as a modern symbol of the country's ancient faith.
