A large open-air weekend market in central Yerevan spread along a park near Republic Square, known for handicrafts, art and antiques. Stalls display woodcarvings, hand-knotted carpets, jewellery of Armenian silver and obsidian, ceramics, old books, coins and Soviet-era curios. Painters hang canvases on the railings and craftspeople sell their own work directly to buyers. The market grew after independence and became a fixture for those seeking souvenirs and a window onto local craft traditions, busiest and most colourful at weekends.
