A gilded monument in central Dushanbe honouring Ismoil Somoni, the medieval Samanid ruler regarded as a founding figure of Tajik statehood and national identity. The crowned figure stands beneath a tall arch topped with a golden crown and stars, set within a landscaped plaza with fountains. Erected after independence, it became a centrepiece of national symbolism, echoed on the country's currency. The monument anchors one end of the capital's ceremonial avenue near government buildings.
