A towering flagpole in central Dushanbe, standing around 165 metres tall and once ranked among the highest in the world when it was raised in 2011. It flies an enormous national flag over the government quarter beside the national museum and the presidential palace. The structure was conceived as a symbol of the country's independence and statehood in the years after the civil war. Visible from far across the capital, it forms a prominent feature of the ceremonial heart of Dushanbe and a frequent subject for visitors' photographs.
