Pura Agung Jagatnatha is the principal temple of Denpasar, dedicated to the supreme god of Balinese Hinduism in his single, all-encompassing form. Built in the twentieth century beside the Bali Museum and the main city square, its centrepiece is a tall white coral-stone shrine, a padmasana, carved with figures from Hindu cosmology and set on the back of a cosmic turtle and serpents. Worshippers gather here for major religious observances, and the temple is illuminated during festivals.
