The Bali Museum in Denpasar, established in the colonial era, preserves the art, crafts and traditions of the island in a complex of pavilions built to resemble Balinese palace and temple architecture. Its courtyards, split gates and thatched halls house collections of stone and bronze sculpture, masks, textiles, ceremonial objects, weapons and painted panels drawn from across Bali. Displays illustrate the rituals of the Hindu-Balinese calendar, from temple festivals to rites of passage.
