Stretching along the Mekong riverfront, this park is named for a nineteenth-century king and centres on a large statue of him gazing across the river toward neighbouring Thailand. The landscaped grounds are among the most popular gathering places in the capital, especially at dusk when residents come to exercise and socialise as an evening market sets up nearby. The wide promenade offers open views of the river and sunsets, and the monument commemorates a figure central to the country's story of resistance.
