This grand Beaux-Arts building near the riverfront was constructed in the colonial era and later became the ceremonial seat of the head of state. Its symmetrical facade, rows of columns and formal forecourt make it one of the most imposing structures in the capital, set behind ornamental gates and gardens. Although the interior is not open to the public, the palace is a prominent stop on a walk through the central district, standing close to notable temples and the riverside promenade and hosting state occasions.
