One of the most revered temples in the capital, this monastery is built around the city's foundation pillar and is dedicated to a guardian spirit associated with a local legend of self-sacrifice at the site's founding. The temple is a constant focus of daily devotion, with residents coming to make offerings, seek blessings and have their fortunes told. Its brightly decorated halls, gilded altars and busy courtyards convey the living intensity of local belief, and a small park with a royal statue stands just outside.
