Lao National Museum

This museum in the capital presents the history of the country from prehistoric times through the periods of monarchy, colonial rule and revolutionary struggle to the founding of the modern state. Formerly housed in a colonial-era building, its displays combine archaeological finds, ethnographic objects, fossils and extensive photographic material on the twentieth-century wars. Modest compared with larger regional institutions, it offers a useful overview of the national narrative and its many influences.
