The seat of Bangladesh's national legislature, this monumental complex in Dhaka was designed by the architect Louis Kahn and completed in the 1980s. Its massive concrete forms, punctured by huge geometric openings and surrounded by an artificial lake, are considered a landmark of modern architecture. The austere, sculptural building draws on both monumental abstraction and regional context, and its scale dominates the surrounding Sher-e-Bangla Nagar district.
